Welcome to Elsa Abroad

You’ve stumbled upon Elsa Abroad, my corner of the internet where I document my adventures, misadventures, and thoughts while traveling the world.

I’m Elsa, a 20-year-old Swede with a deep love for beaches, green smoothies, and the occasional hike. If you’re into scenic detours, honest storytelling, and learning how to travel sustainably without losing your sanity (or your luggage), you’re in the right place.

So, who am I?

I grew up in Gothenburg, Sweden—a city of salty sea breezes and cozy Fika traditions. My life was pretty ordinary until I decided to make it, well, less ordinary. A few years ago, I packed my life into a backpack and took off, swapping routines for runways, and now, here I am: living on the road full-time and writing about it.

I’m the girl who’s always chasing the next sunrise, balancing my laptop on questionable hostel tables, and trying not to miss my train (spoiler: I miss it anyway). I like to think of myself as a curious traveler—not here to tick off bucket lists but to experience the heart of a place, even if it means getting lost along the way.

How did Elsa Abroad begin?

Elsa Abroad started as a small blog when I was dreaming of seeing the world but couldn’t quite figure out how to make it happen. Back then, I thought I’d spend my days behind a desk. But life had other plans.

Fast forward to now, and this little blog has grown into a full-time passion project. What began as a way to document my trips (and vent about terrible Wi-Fi in budget hostels) has become my platform for sharing sustainable travel hacks, practical advice, and heartfelt stories from the road.

My travel life in a nutshell

These days, I’m exploring the world with an open heart, a carry-on suitcase, and a determination to leave each place better than I found it. From the beaches of Bali to the cobblestone streets of Lisbon, I’m always on the move. Some trips are magical; others are a comedy of errors. Either way, I’m here to tell the tales.

My favorite destinations so far:

  • Bali: For its lush jungles and sunsets that feel like they belong in a movie.
  • Japan: Because it’s impossible to not fall in love with ramen and temples.
  • New Zealand: Where I learned that I’m not terrible at hiking (but also not great).

When I’m not writing, you’ll find me paddleboarding, sampling local foods, or accidentally overpaying for coffee because I didn’t learn the exchange rate.

What you’ll find on Elsa Abroad

I keep things simple and real here. On my blog, you’ll find:

  • Travel Guides: Honest tips to help you plan trips without losing your mind (or blowing your budget).
  • Sustainable Travel: I’m big on exploring responsibly—because the planet deserves our care.
  • Stories and Misadventures: From missing flights to making friends with stray dogs in Thailand, I share it all.
  • Practical Advice: Whether it’s packing hacks or how to survive long-haul flights, I’ve got you covered.

Why I’m here

Traveling has taught me more than I ever expected—about myself, about the world, and about how to navigate foreign public transit systems without ending up three cities away. I write to connect, inspire, and maybe make you laugh along the way.

So, welcome to Elsa Abroad. Let’s explore, embrace the chaos, and maybe even figure out how to save the planet one trip at a time.

Catch me somewhere sunny, Elsa 🌍
